A 7.9 Earthquake Strikes American Samoa
According to the Los Angeles Times, a 7.9 earthquake struck the Pacific Ocean near American Samoa today. However, officials have not yet issued a warning for the California coast. They report that it hit early this morning in the 10 o’clock hour. There was no immediate word of injuries or damage.
Federal authorities say it’s unclear whether or not the quake formed a tsunami, but that even if it did, there’s no danger to the Pacific coast of California,Oregon,or Washington at the time. They did issue a watch for the Hawaiian Islands as well as other island areas, which include New Zealand and New Guinea.
American Samoa is apparently more than 4,000 miles from Los Angeles
